Xmas come early

I am not a big fan of celebrating Xmas early, a week before is plenty of time to get the decorations up. However I don't like the idea of the last minute dash so it's good to get the preparations done early. My new show has opened at the Material Gallery in Ludlow. Thanks to Lucy & Joe for organising and providing a cider fueled private view on Friday night. The show is running until Nov 5th. Limited edition hand printed notebooks and tea towels will be available on my shop this week.

Keeping it local

I designed the local Fete poster, which is a nice two colour screen print. It's nice to use old media for traditional events, now if I can just get my hands on some of that woodblock type rumoured to be withing spitting distance of my studio... and it goes without saying if you live in the area, pop along and you can have one.

Bath Uni workshop

I had the pleasure to spend the day at Bath Spa uni with amazing screen print artist Kate Gibb. We hosted a day of freestyle screen printing with students, it was a great chance to experiment and get our hands dirty. Bath has a great reputation for talented students as you can see from some of the students work. Can't wait to go back.

Print Okushon

The Illustrated Ape

A few years ago, when I used to work in publishing I used to art-direct issues of The Illustrated Ape. I found these early flat plans for the 1976 issue, which if you ever saw it would corellate quite well to the finished magazine. The Ape is on hold for the time being but I hope to return one day and create one more mega issue.

I am always amazed by new developments by Cherry, my little 3 year old. She has a healthy interest in painting, drawing and sculpture. Apart from my own sense of pride which is obligatory, it's a great reminder of how art and design is just about doing it, totally free without inhibition, or even a starting point. Watching Cherry reminds me that "there ain't nothing to it but to do it". Expect more on this subject soon!

Finding time to do my 'own' artwork (that is work that isn't commissioned) is very hard for me... and consequently I have been unable to release any screen prints or products for a while. Illustrating a story

I am just mid way through illustrating a story for brilliant childrens magazine Anorak. Its a real challenge for me - I always like to tell some kind of story in my work, but I guess my brief is to translate the words into pictures The other challenging aspect is to o figurative work, which, if you haven't noticed, is not something I often do! I guess we'll wait and see how it turns out. This is an island that the characters visit on their travels...
